Hmmm...

Longing
16x20 mixed media and acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

I am completely unsure about this painting. I need some honest opinions on this, please!!!

  1. Hi. You asked for honesty? Well to my eye I love this painting. I have a good eye too. I was raised by my artist grandmother who was actually quite a famous painter in her time. Your color, depth, and precision is excellent.
Thanks for sharing this. I am having a bit of a bad day and your painting brought a smile to my face.

  2. Well, lets see.. First of all, this makes me very happy. I can see why you are kinda unsure, because it looks a lot different than your usual paintings. More mature, I think. The other paintings make me think about innocence, while this painting gives me the feeling of less innocence, more knowledge. A lady with a past. It makes me think about the inner growth of people. About my inner growth. And I totally love that little curl that rests on her right arm.
It makes me think about long hot showers and getting clean, literally and figurative.

I really really love the colors, anyway, thanks for showing it. It makes me happy! I think it would be great if you would challenge yourself and paint a little more like this, although I feel like you should also keep up the other work!

    Love,
    Caelum.

  3. What wonderful, thoughtful replies. I can't tell you how much both of the comments made me feel. It IS very different from what I normally paint, and stepping out of the norm can be a scary thing! You both made me feel so much better about it!!!

  4. Wow. Hmmmm... I feel like shes different from your other paintings because you usually draw girls, and this feel to me like shes not human at all. Like she's a mermaid, clutching the unknown.
Isn't it amazing how art speaks to us differently?

  5. It's funny Maria, because I kinda felt the mermaid vibe, too. So interesting, because being the artist, it's still open to interpretation for me!!

  7. My daughter & I love this piece. After showing my daughter your "Elusive
piece, she thinks this one looks like another mermaid holding 2 shells.

  8. Thank you everyone! Yep, definitely feeling the mermaid vibe here, too, even though it was DEFINITELY unintentional. But I like that. They're what I call 'happy mistakes'.
