The fairy's got a secret...

What do you suppose it is? These fairies, although small in size, are HUGE in knowledge. Most people don't even think they exist. That's just part of our human vanity. Once we get outside our heads, maybe our minds will be accepting of the knowledge that comes naturally to these tiny little creatures.

What do you think her secret is?
16x24" Mixed media and acrylic on stretched canvas.

I tried to take an angle shot so that you could see all the beautiful, irridescent glitter everywhere, but I'm not sure it was effective! In real life, it's rich in colour and has fairy dust EVERYWHERE!!!

Yet...another...mermaid...

I never do tire of mermaids and fairies and all things magical. They always make me feel good. I love the energy they represent. This one's a smaller piece. It's a 10"x3" mixed media and acrylic piece. I'm debating on putting her in my etsy shop...

Giveaway Friday!!

Ok, so I`ve been a little under the weather the last couple days. Constantly sneezing and blowing my nose. I thought some pretty, colourful flowers might be the perfect pick-me-up! I visited one of my favourite sites How About Orange for inspiration and found a pretty idea for some stationery (I LOVE stationery!!). This is my version of it, and if you enter the draw and win (by way of random number generator on Monday afternoon), this is what you`ll get! Hope you like them and thanks for visiting!

P.S. I`m an obsessive hand-washer, so the cards are clean ;)

Mirabelle

I finished Mirabelle today and it was SO. MUCH. FUN! She turned out ok. I learned some things in the process, so if and when I make another, there will be some modifications, but for the most part, I'm pretty happy with her!

An art doll in the works!

I've been wanting to make one of these for sooooooooooooo long, and have decided...THERE'S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT! So, I started her today! She'll measure around 18 inches long. Newspaper ball armature, and handmade paper pulp, my own recipe. I think I need to buy some doll hair for her. I normally make the hair out of papier mache (with the exception of one mermaid) but I would really like to use bought hair for once. I really like how it adds realism. Also, I've never made my characters clothing out of fabric, so this will be really fun! I'm super excited about this doll! I think I can probably have her done by tomorrow!

Skulls on Valentines

So I guess I'm just a twisted, unromantic kind of girl, because of all things, I chose to paint a skull on Valentine's day. Haha!! I kind of make me laugh. Anyhow, this one is an 8x10 acrylic and mixed media piece called 'Live Like you are Dying'.

The Stars Shine for Her

This 10x30 mixed media and acrylic piece just got more and more colourful as the day went on.

I had so much fun painting her. The text and images in her dress come from an old, old book called 'Five Little Stars in Alaska'. My love of all things vintage rears its head once again!

When I was finished, I realized that she reminded me of my favourite toy when I was eight years old...Raindbow Brite. Hope she makes you smile...

A painting for Alexz

My new friend Alexz from Alexz Creations and I decided to do a swap. I totally love her animation, and I think she digs my paintings. Anyhow, she's working on some awesome, quirky, animated drawings of myself and my family. I'm so unbelievably excited to see them!!! Alexz wanted a painting of herself and her new fiance. Her wedding colours are black, white, and purple. She wanted to be wearing a long white dress with a sweetheart neckline and for her fiance to wear all black with a white tie. After going through all of her facebook pictures to get a 'feel' for them, this is what I came up with. I'm SO NERVOUS!!! I hope she likes it. Art is just so subjective and personal...

Mini Fairy Curio!

Ok, so it's not yet a fairy curio, but that's what it's GOING to be! My VERY talented and cool new friend Alexzandra (definitely pop by her blog...this girl's got MAD SKILLS!!!) gave me the suggestion. And what a great suggestion it was! I'm really excited to get started on it. She said that I should put some little fairy shoes and gardening tools and stuff on the shelves. Does anyone else have any ideas??? What colour should I paint it? And it should obviously be antiqued, right? Any other thoughts?

Seasons Change

Seasons Change
16x20 acrylic and mixed media on canvas

So many emotions ran through me as I painted this. Memories of the past, thoughts of the future. With the blowing leaves, and the daisy in her hair, I could think only of the seasons. How our minds and our hearts change. How things never stay the same, as much as we sometimes try to make them...

The best thrift store find...EVER!!!

Ok, so I ran back to Goodwill yesterday to grab some more 8-tracks, and I found THE best shabby chic dresser EVER!!! I really didn't know what to do with or what room it was going to fit in, all I knew was that I had to buy it.

It is just so perfect. It's worn down in all the right places, and it has such beautiful craftsmanship. It's all dovetailed and everything. Oh how I love this piece! I love to buy old things and run my fingers over them and think about who once cherished them...

It now sits in Sisi's room and is home to all of her favourite things...

Oh and by the way...I'm going to start doing giveaways on Fridays! So be sure to check in!!!

So much I want to say!!

Well, first of all, I'm so thankful and excited about all the wonderful comments for the One World One Heart Giveaway! Thank you all so much. It really does warm my heart!

Secondly, another BIG thanks to Holly at Whimsy Owl Way for featuring my blog and my art! And she has some BEAUTIFUL papier mache pieces in her etsy store that are REALLY adorable and definitely worth checking out. I especially love the little birdies!! So flippin' cute!! So anyway, thanks so much, Holly! You're a doll!!!

And lastly...

...an 8-track? What? Oh yeah, you heard me. An 8-track. As those of you who follow me know, I love hunting through thrift stores. On one particular excursion, I found some 8-tracks...and I thought...PERFECT CANVASES!!! So I bought a couple to practice on and make sure I like them. Guess what? I like them. A lot. They're the perfect size for minis, and a perfect shape as well. But do you know what I like best? They STAND ON THEIR OWN!! Can I get a WHAT WHAT!? AND I'm saving them from a life of landfills and stinky garbage!!
