An art doll in the works!

I've been wanting to make one of these for sooooooooooooo long, and have decided...THERE'S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT! So, I started her today! She'll measure around 18 inches long. Newspaper ball armature, and handmade paper pulp, my own recipe. I think I need to buy some doll hair for her. I normally make the hair out of papier mache (with the exception of one mermaid) but I would really like to use bought hair for once. I really like how it adds realism. Also, I've never made my characters clothing out of fabric, so this will be really fun! I'm super excited about this doll! I think I can probably have her done by tomorrow!

Your doll is looking great! Didn't realize you place paper on your doll. It is really great to paint on.
Your doll is going to be spectacular!

Have a great day!

Thanks Julie-Ann! Yeah, the tissue paper over top is just something I do to make it extra strong! I don't buy the paper pulp stuff which in itself is pretty binding, I guess, so this is just my way of keeping thumbs attached to the hands and noses to the faces! lol

Congrats on stepping out of your comfort zone with this doll! I don't do fabric very much either and I was intimidated at first but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. have fun with it and I can't wait to see her finished!

Hi and thanks for sharing how you are making this doll. It gives us non doll makers a great insight. Can't wait to see her finished. Oh about fabric, I do sew and use fabric in unconventional ways. At a bead meeting not too long ago one of the gals asked, "You use the F word?" Well you know what I was thinking, they all started to laugh and said FABRIC.

Have fun and keep us posted
